Laura Ashley Plus Size Offerings are Ahead of the Curve

With the average size of British women increasing in recent years to a size 16 from a size 12 in the 1990s, it's not surprising that so much hype has surrounded the news that Marc Jacobs, the label beloved by fashionistas and A-listers all over the world, is soon to extend his range to include sizes greater than a 14.

As a label with strong traditional links and a proud British heritage spanning almost 60 years, Laura Ashley has always desi women's jackets gned for the quintessentially British woman - so it's little wonder that the Laura Ashley range has pieces to suit, fit and flatter the more curvaceous woman as well as the super-slender, and that buying trends at Laura Ashley are mirroring the upward shift in average British sizing.

"According to our size analysis, we have moved from a bias of 12 to 14 in recent years," says the Head of Product (Fashion) at Laura Ashley - and pieces within the fashion range, including women's dresses, shirts, skirts and cardigans are available in sizes up to a 20.

In addition to the generous and realistic choice of sizes available to the Laura Ashley customer, the fashion range also features five different styles of trouser, all of which are offered in both a regular (32 inch) and short (30 inch) length, recognising that different women suit different styles according to their shape and lifestyle, regardless of their size.

With two more casual styles named after seaside towns and their evocation of relaxed days and easy living, and another three bearing the names of London suburbs, reflecting the faster pace and slicker style of city life, the Laura Ashley trouser range is designed with every British woman in mind.

  • The Sandbanks Trouser sits just below the waist and is fitted through the waist, hip and thigh, relaxing into a wide leg
  • The Southwold Trouser also sits just below the natural waist and is gently fitted through the waist and hip, with a variety of leg styles - slim, straight and boot - available
  • The Bayswater Trouser boasts a more formal shape, sitting slightly above the natural waist and featuring a wide leg and a loose fit on the hip and thigh
  • The Highgate Trouser is fitted through the waist and hip and sits just below the waist. It is available in both Boot Leg and Straight Leg styles
  • The Putney Trouser boasts a slick, slim-leg shape; fitted over the hip and thigh, narrow at the hem and sitting just below the waist

Available in Autumn Winter 2010 in fabrics ranging from stretch cotton, moleskin and tweed to herringbone and flannel, the trouser colours have been chosen to perfectly complement and blend with the cool weather palette.

Whether you are looking for the feminine silhouette of a dress or skirt, or the more contemporary elegance of a trouser, The Laura Ashley fashion range offers something to women of all shapes and sizes, with a strong attention to detail and an emphasis on quality and style.
